Demo #1 “In My Weakness”

Posted by on May 16, 2007

Many people ask me after an album has been out for awhile, “hey, when are you going to make a new CD?”. Well, I am now going to attemp to answer that question in a more thorough way than ever before: One of my intentions with this site is to document, song by song, the making of our next record – and you get to be a part of it! For the next several months, I will be writing songs, recording demos of them, talking to producers, recording the band, printing the artwork, and throwing the ALBUM RELEASE PARTY, and taking you along every step of the way! Ready???!

OK, here’s my first demo to share. It’s a little tune that got in my head on a long drive to Santa Cruz. Inspired by our church’s (www.ROCKHARBOR.org) message series and what God’s been teaching me these days. It’s pretty simple, so I’m not sure how it will work on a full-blown CD, but here it is to throw into the hat.

  1. I can hear this as a Foo Fighters type of Rock number….. get out the Les Paul and rock the baby!

  2. Can’t wait to rock the UK in a few weeks!

Are you SURE about the Foo Fighters thing???! I’ve never thought of it like that, but I’ll give it a shot…Thanks for the comment!

  3. I’ve always thought the Foo’s would make great modern hymn writers, something like “The Deepest Blues are Black” I think – could be a nice strong declaration if the song started really gentle and built into a all out anthem.

However, I could be completely wrong 😀

  4. yah yah…I’m gettin’ it! NICE THOUGHT!!!! Thanks again!

  5. Hey Justin! It sounds soooo familiar – maybe it’s the “Hallelujah” chord progression. I don’t know but I loved it right away (felt familiar).

Also, I’ve been practicing “Hungry” by Kathryn Scott for our offertory on Sunday – these two go great together. Same mood and message.

  6. Thanks, Jodes!!! Maybe I’ll try that medley idea sometime soon……
